Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology encompasses virtually any device or software used by a person with a disability to accommodate his or her disability. It ranges from magnifiers to wheelchairs to adaptive computer equipment. In the context of "One Stop" Employment Center Resource Rooms, we are specifically interested in assistive technologies that provide access to computers and information.

Under the first Illinois Work Incentive Grant, one set of "standard" assistive technology was provided to one Resource Room in each Local Workforce Investment Area. Through the second Work Incentive Grant, an "enhanced" set of technologies are being provided to eight "model" One Stops (Champaign, East St Louis, Harvey, Marion, Moline, Mt Vernon, Springfield, and DuPage):
